The Centre for Economic and Social Studies (CESS) Hyderabad was established in the year 1980. It is an autonomous Research Center, under the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.

The Center is recognized as a National Institute and plays a vital role in the promotion of research and training. It is funded by the Indian Council of Social Sceance Research (ICSSR).

The vision & mission of Institute is to provide assistance to the Central & State Government by Conducting various policy related studies systematic studies of resources potential examining measures for reducing poverty of both level macro and micro. The Center conducting research activities to develop Agriculture, Food Security, Poverty Alleviation and Unemployment, District Planning,Bovine & Dairy Development, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Tax System, Health Economics and State and Local Finances, etc.
