Centre for Women’s Development Studies (CWDS) was established on 19th April 1980. It's an autonomous institute to build on the knowledge and communicated to the Women’s Bureau of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of India. For preparing reports on the status of women in India. CSWI and Government associated with the Women's Studies Programmes of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR).

The aim of Centre is to develop promote and disseminate knowledge about women's role in society and economic trends by organizing and conducting training programs for Scholars, Planners, Administrators, development Agent, Communicators, Members of Women’s Organizations, Cooperatives, etc.

The main objective of Center is to promote education training and action programmes for women especially underprivileged women and promote fundamental and applied research on women and development.
