Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Post-Doctoral Fellowship
- Essential Qualification: Ph.D. degree holders within three years of the award of the Ph.D. degree, or those who have submitted a Ph.D. thesis. Applicants about to submit their thesis are also eligible, subject to submission before award expiry.
- Experience: Research publications in high-impact-factor SCI journals are required.
- Nationality: Open to Indian nationals, Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and up to 20 foreign nationals.
Age Limit
- Maximum Age: 35 years as on 27 January 2026.
- Relaxation: Up to 5 years for SC/ST/Physically Disabled & Women; 3 years for OBC Non-Creamy Layer.

Selection Process
Selection will be based on the following:
- Candidates may apply at any time; selection takes place twice a year (June & December).
- Shortlisting based on applications received two months prior to the interview.
- Selection is based on the presentation of a research proposal and interview by a committee.
- Foreign nationals can be considered in absentia, subject to clearance by DIAT/DRDO HQ.

Instructions
- Selected candidates must join within 2 months of appointment.
- Must undertake full-time research at DIAT.
- Annual progress evaluation is required for fellowship extension.
- DIAT alumni are not eligible for PDF at DIAT under this scheme.
- Selected candidates must acknowledge DIAT support in all publications, patents, and reports.
- Assist the department with PG/PhD student support and lab/conference duties.
- Accommodation is provided if available; medical benefits as per DIAT rules.
