Panipat is a historic city in Haryana, India. It is 95 km north of Delhi and 169 km south of Chandigarh on NH-44. The three major battles fought in 1526, 1556 and 1761 took place in Panipat. The city is famous in India as the "City of Weavers" and "Textile City". Panipat district was carved out from the erstwhile Karnal district on 1 January 1992 and it became a separate district. It is also known as the "cast-off capital" due to being "the global centre for recycling textiles. According to tradition, the site 8 km from Panipat and 42 km from Karnal, where Sadashiv Rao Bhau commanded his Maratha forces during the third battle of Panipat was marked by a black Mango Tree (Kala Amb) which has since disappeared.
The Haryana Government declared Panipat as a separate Sessions Division vide a notification no. S.O. 119/CA 2/1974/S.7/2010 dated 16.10.2010. The existing building is a unique building constructed on the G.T. Road in a circular shape. The new building is named as Judicial Complex.
