Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification
This notification is open only to serving Indian Railway officers. The following eligibility conditions apply for Sr. Section Engineer / Inspection / S&T:
- Current Post & Pay Level: Candidates must be working as Sr. Section Engineer (Cadre Post) at Pay Level-7 in the Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) department of a Zonal Railway or Production Unit.
- Officers at Higher Levels: Sr. Section Engineers of the concerned department working in a level higher than Level-7 may also apply. Upon selection, they will be transferred to RDSO along with their substantive post (Level 8 and above); in lieu, a Level-7 post will be temporarily transferred from RDSO to their parent unit for the tenure duration.
- Minimum Service Experience: Minimum 05 years of service experience as Sr. Section Engineer (Cadre Post) Pay Level-7 in the S&T department is required.
- Residual Service: Candidate must have at least 05 years of residual service remaining.
- APAR Grading: Combined APAR grading of the last three years (2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25) must not be less than 11 marks out of the prescribed maximum. The APAR grading of the most recent year must not be lower than 'GOOD'.
- Vigilance Status: No case under D&AR or SPE/Vigilance should be pending or contemplated against the candidate.
- Medical Category: A-3 medical category is required.
- Cooling-off Period: A cooling-off period of three years is maintained between two consecutive tenures at RDSO.
- Disqualification Clause: Candidates against whom any penalty was imposed as an outcome of a vigilance case during a previous RDSO tenure will be debarred from the present selection.
- Exclusions: Experience gained in ex-cadre posts and any pay level granted due to MACP (Modified Assured Career Progression) will not be considered for eligibility.
- Cut-off Date: All eligibility, experience and other criteria are reckoned as on 21 September 2026 (date of issue of notification).
Selection Process & Screening Clause
Selection will be based on screening of eligible candidates by a Screening Committee. Candidates are evaluated on two components totalling a maximum of 20 marks:

No separate written test or interview is conducted. The selection is purely merit-based on the above screening parameters. No TA/DA will be paid to candidates for any stage of the selection process.
