Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

Scientist-D (Medical)

  • Essential Qualification: MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by MCI/NMC
  • Essential Experience: 8 years
  • Desirable Qualification: MD/MS or equivalent (MCI/NMC recognized), or MPH from a recognized university, or Ph.D. from a recognized University in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences
  • Desirable Experience: Research & Development in Biomedical Sciences – Epidemiology of Non-Communicable Diseases, Public Health and Health Systems in Government/Public Sector/Private Institutions

Scientist-D (Non-Medical)

  • Essential Qualification: Masters from a recognized University in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences, or Pharm-D degree recognized by UGC/PCI
  • Essential Experience: 8 years
  • Desirable Qualification: Ph.D. from a recognized University in a subject related to Biomedical Sciences
  • Desirable Experience: Research & Development in Biostatistics / Data Sciences in Government/Public Sector/Private Institutions

Experience Counting Rules

  • Ph.D. will be considered as 4 years' experience (irrespective of duration taken to complete)
  • MD/MS or equivalent will be considered as 3 years' experience
  • MVSc will be considered as 2 years' experience
  • MPH / M.Tech / ME will NOT be counted as experience
  • Experience in Research & Development related to Biomedical Sciences in Government/Public Sector/Private Institutions will be admissible
  • Period spent on obtaining minimum essential qualification will NOT count towards experience

Selection Process & Screening Clause

  • Mode of Selection: Computer-Based Test (MCQ-based), Interview, or both, as decided by ICMR
  • CBT Nature: If conducted, the computer-based test will be based on the understanding of research methods and will be of qualifying nature
  • Shortlisting Criteria: Candidates fulfilling minimum eligibility (age, educational qualification, experience) will be shortlisted. If the number of eligible candidates exceeds capacity, ICMR will further shortlist based on criteria fixed by the Competent Authority – such as higher experience or higher educational qualifications
  • No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the CBT/interview
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC): Applicants from Central/State Government Departments, PSUs, or government-funded research agencies must submit an NOC with an undertaking to be relieved within one month of receipt of appointment order

  • Certificates and detailed mark sheets in support of educational qualifications from Matriculation onwards
  • Date of Birth proof (Matriculation certificate / Birth certificate)
  • Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS) if applicable

  • Experience certificates issued by the Competent Authority indicating duration (start and end dates), pay level, work profile and other relevant details
