Educational Qualification: candidates shall register for Ph.D. under HBNI. Those who join with M.Sc./M.Tech. will be eligible to register for direct Ph.D. Those who join with B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. Engg./B.Sc. [Tech.] and M.Sc.(Material Science/Material Science in Engg.) will be considered for integrated Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences with an option to have single degree (Integrated Ph.D. only) or two degree (M.Sc.(Engg.) and Ph.D.)

Age Limit:The maximum age limit is 28 years as on the closing date for submission of application. A relaxation in age, up to 3 years in case of Other Backward Class applicants, 5 years in case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe applicants and 10 years in case of Persons with bench mark disabilities (40% and more) is allowed.
Selection Procedure
Candidates will be selected based on written test/personal interview/medical test/walkin interview. Once a candidate is selected they will be placed as Junior Research Fellowship in IGCAR.

Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) was set up at Kalpakkam in 1971 with the main objective of conducting a broad-based multidisciplinary programme of scientific research and advanced Engineering, directed towards the development of sodium cooled Fast Breeder Reactor [FBR] technology, in India. This is part of the second stage of Indian Atomic Energy Programme, which is aimed at preparing the country for utilisation of the extensive Thorium reserves to meet the large demands of electrical energy in the coming times.
The centre has established comprehensive R & D facilities covering the entire spectrum of FBR technology related to Sodium Technology, Reactor Engineering, Reactor Physics, Metallurgy and Materials, Chemistry of Fuels and its materials, Fuel Reprocessing, Reactor Safety, Control and Instrumentation, Computer Applications etc.
