Andhra Pradesh Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (APKGBV) is a government initiative in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh aimed at providing quality education to girls from marginalized communities. The program was launched in 2005 as part of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) scheme, which is implemented throughout the country.
The objective of APKGBV is to bridge the gender gap in education and promote the empowerment of girls by providing them with access to education, particularly in rural and remote areas. The program focuses on girls belonging to disadvantaged communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and minorities.
The KGBV schools in Andhra Pradesh are residential schools that provide free education, boarding, and lodging facilities to the enrolled girls. These schools follow the curriculum prescribed by the Andhra Pradesh State Education Department and offer education from Class VI to X. The curriculum includes subjects such as languages, mathematics, science, social studies, and vocational skills.
