Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel

• Essential Qualification: Law Degree (implicit requirement for practice).
• Experience: Practice in Criminal law for at least 10 years in Session Court. Must have handled at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Courts.
• Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to work effectively and efficiently with others with capability to lead.
• Desirable: LL.M. Degree, Ph.D. in Law, Knowledge of Information Technology and Legal Software Tools.

Eligibility for Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel

• Essential Qualification: Law Degree.
• Experience: Practice in Criminal law for at least 7 years in Session Court or Magistrate Court.
• Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills; IT Knowledge with proficiency in work.
• Desirable: LL.M. Degree, Ph.D. in Law, Knowledge of Information Technology and Legal Software Tools.

Eligibility for Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel

• Essential Qualification: Law Degree.
• Experience: Practice in criminal law from 0 to 3 years.
• Skills: Good oral and written communication skills; IT Knowledge with high proficiency in work.
• Desirable: LL.M. Degree, Ph.D. in Law, Knowledge of Information Technology and Legal Software Tools.

Selection Process

• Applications will be scrutinized according to the rules. Incomplete or false information applications will be rejected.
• A list of eligible and ineligible candidates will be pasted on the DLSA, Mandla notice board.
• Eligible candidates will be called for an Interview before a selection committee chaired by the Principal District & Sessions Judge.
• Selection is purely based on merit, taking into account knowledge, skills, practice, and experience.
• The selection committee's merit list will be sent to the M.P. State Legal Services Authority, Jabalpur, for final approval.
