The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala has released a notification for the upgradation of existing Professors (Pay Level 14A) to the Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) Scale (Pay Level 15). Eligible and interested professors are invited to submit their applications for this prestigious upgradation.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for Professor (HAG Scale)

• Essential Qualification: Ph.D. degree is mandatory.
• Experience: Must have completed six (6) years of service as Professor in Level 14 or equivalent, or Level 14A or equivalent, or a combination of both in an Institute of National Importance.
• Cumulative Essential Credit Points: 150 Credit Points are required (calculated based on Schedule E criteria).

Salary / Scale of Pay

The upgraded post carries the Pay Level 15 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (Higher Administrative Grade Scale).

• Last Date for Application Submission: January 15, 2026
• Hard Copy Deadline: January 6, 2026 (Note: Hard copies must reach by this date).
• Cut-off Date for Eligibility: As of the last date of application submission (January 15, 2026).

Selection Process

Selection for upgradation to Professor (HAG Scale) will be based on the verification of credentials, assessment of Cumulative Essential Credit Points (Minimum 150 points), and the recommendations of the competent committee formed by the Institute.

2. Fill the application form completely and attach all required self-attested documents (Proof of DOB, Academic records, Experience certificates, NOC, etc.).
3. Send the filled application along with supporting documents via hard copy to the Office of the Registrar, NIT Agartala.
4. Ensure the envelope is superscribed clearly: "APPLICATION FOR UPGRADATION OF PROFESSOR TO PROFESSOR (HAG SCALE, PAY LEVEL 15)".

Credit Point System (Schedule E)

Applicants must ensure they meet the 150 credit points requirement. The calculation is based on the following criteria:

• Sponsored R&D Projects/Patents: 8 points per project/patent.
• Consultancy Projects: 2 points per ₹5 lakhs (Max 10 points).
• Ph.D. Guidance: 8 points per completed student (divided among supervisors).
• Journal Papers: 4 points per paper in SCI/Scopus indexed journals.
• Administrative Roles:
  • HOD, Dean, Chief Warden: 2 points per semester (Max 16).
  • Warden, Associate Dean: 1 point per semester (Max 8).
• Teaching Load: 1 point per credit hour for theory teaching over 6 hours (Max 6 points).
• Books: 6 points per book for international publishers; 2 points for national publishers or chapters.
