Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

Resident Staff Nurse

  • Educational Qualification: B.Sc. Nursing OR General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) diploma.
  • Experience: Candidates holding a GNM diploma must have not less than 2 years of post-qualification nursing experience. Experience is not mandatory for B.Sc. Nursing graduates.
  • Registration: All candidates must hold a valid registration with the Kerala Nurses & Midwives Council.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be below 30 years of age as on 19 October 2026 (last date for submission of application).
  • Age Relaxation: Upper age limit relaxation is applicable for SC/ST and OBC categories as per existing norms, subject to submission of a Caste Certificate issued by the Tahsildar.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

The selection methodology depends on the volume of applications received:

  • If 25 or fewer applications are received: A rank list will be prepared based on a common index system using marks scored in the qualifying examination (B.Sc. Nursing / GNM) and weightage for additional experience.
  • If more than 25 applications are received: A written test of 50 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) will be conducted, and a rank list will be prepared based on written test scores combined with experience weightage.

Experience Weightage: Two marks per year of experience beyond the mandatory qualification, up to a maximum of 5 marks. For GNM candidates, weightage is computed only for years served in excess of the mandatory 2-year requirement. A candidate holding a Post Basic Diploma in Oncology Nursing (PBDON) is eligible for an additional 2 marks weightage (PBDON Certificate required).

Written Test Syllabus (if applicable): Nursing Foundation, Basic Sciences, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery & Gynaecological Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Nursing Research & Statistics, Oncology Nursing, and related subjects.

  • Candidates will be entitled to a weekly off, 20 days of Casual Leave, and 8 closed holidays per year during the contract period.
  • An Experience Certificate as “Resident Staff Nurse” will be issued only to candidates completing at least six months of service and fulfilling all resignation formalities.
