Educational Qualification:
Field Worker: 12th pass in science subjects with two years experience in field works from Government institution. *B.Sc. degree shall be treated as 3 years experience.
Project Technician-I: High school *or equivalent with one year experience in laboratory (Biological Science/Field work from a Government institution. Or certificate course of one year in related subject. * Intermediate with science subjects shall be treated as equivalent to 2 years experience.
Project Technician-II: High school *or equivalent with five years experience in laboratory (biological science/Field work from a Government institution. Or certificate course of one year in related subject. * Intermediate with science subjects and B.Sc. shall be treated as equivalent to 2 and 3 years experience respectively.
Laboratory Technician: 12th pass in science subjects and two years diploma in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) OR 12th pass in Science subjects and one year DMLT plus one year laboratory experience in a recognized organisation OR two years laboratory experience* in Government recognized organisation. *B.Sc. degree shall be treated as 3 years experience.
Project Technical Officer: Graduate in Sociology/Social Science/Social Work from a recognized university with three years work experience in Sociology/Social Science/Social Work from a recognized institution OR Master's degree in Sociology/Social Science/Social Work.
Scientist-B: MBBS Degree with 02 years Research/Teaching experience. OR ative Om MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from a recognized university.
Scientist-C: Post Graduate Degree (MD/MS/DNB in Microbiology/Community Medicine/PSM/Biochemistry) after MBBS with one year experience. OR Postgraduate diploma in Medical subject after MBBS with two years experience. OR MBBS degree with 04 years experience in medical subjects after MBBS Degree.

The Centre was established on 1st of April 1983 with the mandate to conduct biomedical research on communicable and non-communicable diseases prevalent in Andaman and Nicobar Islands with special emphasis on the health problems of the indigenous tribes and to develop technical manpower locally. A field station of the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NICED), Kolkata was functioning at Port Blair until 1983, when it was merged with the RMRC. The Centre started functioning in a rented building in Farzand Ali Market at Aberdeen Bazar, Port Blair. The Centre at that time had minimum laboratory facilities for clinical research.
The necessity for the Centre to have its own building was soon recognized. The Andaman and Nicobar Administration was approached for allotment of land and subsequently land was allotted at Dollygunj. The foundation stone for the new office-cum-laboratory complex of the Centre was laid by the then Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri Vakkom Purushothaman on 23 December 1993 and the construction began in 1994.
