Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility for Coach (Regular)
- Essential Education: Any Bachelor’s Degree of not less than 3 years duration from a UGC-recognized University.
- Professional Qualification: One year Diploma/Certificate in Sports Coaching (min 10 months) from NIS/SAI, OR PG Diploma in Sports Coaching from TNPESU or LNIPE Gwalior.
- Sports Representation: Must have represented Tamil Nadu State in National School Games/Championships or National Level competitions organized by National Federations/National Games, OR represented any University in Tamil Nadu in Inter-University National level competitions.
- Order of Studies: Qualifications must be in the order 10th + HSC/Diploma + UG Degree.
Eligibility for Coach - Para (Differently Abled)
- Essential Education: Any Bachelor’s Degree of not less than 3 years duration from a UGC-recognized University.
- Sports Representation: Must have represented Tamil Nadu State in Games/Championships conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) and recognized Federations.
- Disability Certificate: Candidates must submit Disability Certificate in the format prescribed in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017.
Age Limit (as on 01.07.2026)
Coach (Regular)
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 45 years for 'Others'; 50 years for SC/ST/MBC/BC/BCM categories and Destitute Widows.
Coach - Para
- Minimum Age: 21 years
- Maximum Age: 55 years (for Persons with Benchmark Disability).
Salary
Scale of Pay for both posts: Level 12 (Rs. 35,600 – 1,30,800). Pay and allowances are governed by the applicable rules of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
Selection Process
Selection is based on a three-level process with a total score of 100 marks:
Level I (50 Marks)
- Professional Qualification Marks (25 marks for Regular, 0 for Para)
- Medals/Sports Achievements (15 marks for Regular, 30 marks for Para)
- Coaching Experience (10 marks for Regular, 20 marks for Para)
Level II (35 Marks)
- Tamil Test (Qualifying - minimum 40% required, 10 marks)
- Sports General Awareness (MCQ, 25 marks)
Level III (15 Marks)
- Discipline-specific Performance Evaluation & Viva Voce
Note: Tie-breaking for the merit list will be done based on Level III score, followed by Level I score, followed by Date of Birth.

The Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) was introduced on 28th August 2007 in Chennai. This authority was established to promote and develop sports activities in state and improvement in standards of sports and games in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu and the Government of India has made plan to develop and construct better infrastructure to acquire, manage, maintenance and utilize sports facilities and building stadium, play fields in Tamil Nadu state.
The SDAT will coordinate, cooperate with Government of India, Sports Authority of India, Sports Councils, Indian Olympic Association, National Sports Federation and other similar District and states relating to Sports and Games and other allied activities.
Vision & Mission of the SDAT is to empower a sustainable sports culture and create world class infrastructure in the state, to promote and encourage people about sports to performed and participate in sports activities.
SDAT provide quality training to sportsperson as they can perform at National and International events.
