The post of Secretary falls vacant on 12.05.2022. As per the Powers and Duties of Secretary Regulations 2004, the Secretary shall be the Principal Officer of the Commission
i. Hence, the Commission opines that persons who have proven track record of successfully managing senior staff and having excellent leadership, analytical and mediation skills should be appointed as Secretary on contract basis from among the individuals who have retired in senior level posts in the State Government / Public Sector Undertakings / Electricity Boards / Corporations. He shall function as per the Powers and Duties of Secretary Regulations 2004.

3. Qualification: Post Graduate degree from a recognized University in India in any discipline. Associate of Company Secretaries is desirable
4. Experience: 20 years of administrative experience out of which 7 years at Management level
5. Desirable experience: Having thorough knowledge and understanding of the electricity sector, especially regulatory reforms.
6. Qualifying Service: Should have served in Grade I posts drawing scale of pay from Level 28 (Rs.1,23,100 – 2,15,900) and above or its equivalent.
7. Pay: Last pay drawn minus pension as per Tamil Nadu Pension Rules, 1978 plus applicable allowances for the post

Selection Procedure
Mere fulfilling of eligibility criteria shall not bestow any right to be called for interview. Only short-listed candidates shall be called for an interview. TNERC reserves the right to keep this post unfilled depending upon the circumstances prevailing at the time of selection. The Commission’s decision in this regard shall be final.

Consequent on the enactment of Electricity Regulatory Commissions (ERC) Act 1998 (Central Act No.14 of 1998) the Government of Tamil Nadu constituted Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC)vide G.O.Ms.No.58 Energy (A1) Department dated 17.3.1999
In the G.O. said above, the Government made the following appointments to the Commission.
1. Thiru K.Venkatesan, I.A.S., (Retired) – Chairperson.
2. Thiru M.G.Devasagayam, I.A.S., (Retired) - Member.
3. Thiru E.C.Arunachalam, Chief Engineer .(Retired) - Member
Thiru E.C.Arunachalam assumed charge as Member on 1.7.1999 and started functioning in a temporary office at the 8th floor of TNEB head quarters in 800 Anna Salai, Chennai 600 002.
Since Thiru M.G.Devasagayam, Member designate relinquished his willingness, the Government vide G.O.No. 156 Energy (A1)Dept., dated 9.8.1999 appointed Thiru D.S.Hanumantha Rao, as Member in his place.
Government approved skeleton staff with one Executive Engineer, one Assistant Executive Engineer, one
Accounts Supervisor, two assistants and three casual staff vide GO Ms No 160 / Energy (A1) dated 12-8-99.
On fixing a rented premises at No 8 Third Main Road , Seethammal Colony at Alwarpet, the Commission’s office was shifted on 6-9-99.
The second Member Thiru D.S.Hanumantha Rao assumed charge on 22.9.1999.
The Commission, with two of its members in place, started drafting the “Conduct of Business Regulations” and “State Advisory Committee Regulation” and collection of relevant details for the State Grid Code, Distribution Code, tariff filing guidelines etc.,
