About LGBRIMH and the HEADS Project

LGBRIMH, Tezpur, is an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. The recruitment is for the multi-centric research project HEADS – Human-in-the-loop Evaluation of Assisted Depression Screening, funded by the Wellcome Trust, United Kingdom. The lead institution is NIMHANS, Bengaluru, with partner institutions IIT Kharagpur and LGBRIMH, Tezpur. The project aims to develop and evaluate a multilingual, AI-assisted system for depression assessment using recorded clinical interviews, automatic speech recognition, machine translation, and clinician-led diagnostic reasoning. Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

Senior Resident (Psychiatry), HEADS Project — 4 Vacancies

• Degree: MBBS from a University/Institution recognised by NMC / NBEMS.
• Postgraduate Qualification: Postgraduate Degree/Diploma in Psychiatry — MD / DNB / Diploma in Psychological Medicine or equivalent Diploma in Psychiatry from a University/Institution recognised by NMC / NBEMS.
• Registration: Valid registration with the National Medical Commission (NMC) or a State Medical Council, valid on the last date of receipt of applications and at the time of joining. For DNB candidates, verification/equivalence by NBEMS is as per prevailing rules.
• Age Limit: Upper age limit 45 years as on 20 November 2026. Relaxation for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen as per extant GoI orders.
• Nationality: Indian nationals only.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

• Proficiency in speaking, reading and writing Assamese and/or Bengali (considered crucial for local patient recruitment, clinical interviewing, and data collection at the Tezpur site).
• Experience in psychiatric interviewing and clinical research.
• Experience in administering structured and semi-structured instruments such as QuickSCID-5 and PHQ-9.
• Experience in digital data collection, handling of audio recordings, and redaction/de-identification of recorded data.
• Experience in clinical reasoning annotation and quality control of transcripts and translations.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

1. Application Screening: All applications are screened against eligibility criteria. Meeting eligibility does not entitle a candidate to be called for interview. Shortlisting is based on qualifications, experience, and desirable attributes.

Contract Duration & Terms of Engagement

• Tenure: Initially 1 year, extendable up to 24 months or the project duration, whichever is earlier — subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
• Nature: Purely contractual, temporary, and project-funded. Gives no right or claim to regular appointment, absorption, or continuation in LGBRIMH or any other project/post.
• Full-time: Exclusive full-time engagement for the HEADS project. Private practice not permitted.
• CPD: 10 days per year for approved Continuing Professional Development activities.
• Termination: One month's notice or payment of one month's consolidated emoluments in lieu by either party. Institute may terminate without notice for unsatisfactory performance, misconduct, or project closure.
• Accommodation: Residential accommodation on campus may be provided subject to availability and on payment of charges per Institute rules — not a matter of right.
