The SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) examination selection process is conducted in two primary stages: Tier I (Computer Based Examination) and Tier II (Computer Based Examination and Skill Test/Typing Test).

Detailed Stages and Marking Scheme:
  • Tier I (CBE): Objective Type, Multiple Choice Questions (200 Marks Total).
Structure: 100 Questions (25 each from English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness).
Marking: +2 marks for every correct answer and 0.50 marks deducted for every incorrect answer (Negative Marking).
  • Tier II (CBE + Skill/Typing Test): Conducted in two sessions on the same day.
Session I (Objective): Includes Section-I (Maths & Reasoning), Section-II (English & General Awareness), and Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test).
Marking (Sections I & II): +3 marks for every correct answer and 1 mark deducted for every incorrect answer.
Module I of Section-III (Computer Knowledge Test): Mandatory but qualifying in nature; marks are not added to the merit but a minimum cut-off must be achieved.
Session II (Skill Test/Typing Test): Mandatory but qualifying in nature.
* Data Entry Speed: Minimum required key depressions per hour (varies by post).

Candidates must qualify in both Tier I and all sections/modules of Tier II. The final merit list is prepared based solely on the total marks secured in the objective-type Sections I and II of Tier II.
