About Birla Industrial & Technological MuseumThe Birla Industrial & Technological Museum (BITM), established on 2nd May 1959, operates under the administrative control of the prestigious Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). Located in Kolkata, this institution is widely regarded as the mother of the science museum movement in India, making it a significant entity for those interested in scientific careers and government jobs within the research and cultural sectors.Historical Legacy and VisionThe inception of this pioneering initiative was driven by the vision of Dr. B. C. Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal. Inspired by the Deutsches Museum in Munich, he envisioned a similar institution in India to foster public engagement with science and technology. His efforts received instant patronage from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, and industrialist Shri G. D. Birla. In 1956, Pandit Nehru accepted the magnanimous gift of Birla Park—a sprawling bungalow and adjoining land in the upscale Ballygunge area of Calcutta—from Shri G. D. Birla, which was donated to the CSIR for setting up the museum.Role in Public Service and EmploymentAs a premier institute under a central government body, BITM plays a vital role in science communication and education. It serves as a hub for students and aspirants preparing for UPSC, SSC, and other sarkari naukri exams, offering insights into India's scientific heritage. The museum represents a unique intersection of history, science, and public service, offering public sector careers dedicated to educational outreach and research. Job seekers looking for stability and meaningful work in the science and technology domain can find valuable Birla Industrial & Technological Museum recruitment updates and latest sarkari naukri notifications by following CSIR-affiliated portals.
