Eligibility Criteria for CSIR JRF (GATE) Recruitment

Educational Qualification

• Essential: B.E./B.Tech. Degree holders in Chemical/Chemical & Electrochemical/Metallurgy/Petrochemical/Nanotechnology/Biotechnology/Material Science/Industrial Biotechnology/Industrial Environmental Engineering/Surface Engineering/Polymer Engineering/Chemical Technology/Chemical Plant Engineering/Applied Chemical & Polymer Technology/Polymer Science & Chemical Technology/Chemical Science & Technology with a valid GATE Score.
• Alternative: Candidates with B.Tech in Biotechnology with a valid GATE score and subject to securing a minimum 85% (percentile) in GATE.
• Ineligible: Candidates with M.E./M.Tech. degree or those eligible for direct CSIR-SRF-Direct are not eligible to apply for JRF-GATE.

Age Limit (as on 10.04.2026)

• Maximum Age: 28 years
• Age Relaxation:
  • SC/PwBD/Female: 5 years relaxation
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years relaxation

Salary & Stipend Details

The fellowship is awarded as per CSIR-HRDG guidelines:

• 1st & 2nd Year: ₹ 37,000/- per month + HRA (as admissible)
• 3rd Year Onwards: ₹ 42,000/- per month + HRA (as admissible), based on assessment of research progress through an expert committee interview.
