Eligibility Criteria
1. Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess any one of the following essential qualifications:
- Master’s Degree of a recognized University in Hindi or English with the other language as a compulsory/elective subject or as the medium of examination at degree level.
- Master’s Degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi or English medium and the other as a compulsory/elective subject at degree level.
- Master’s Degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory/elective subjects or either of the two as the medium of examination and the other as a compulsory/elective subject at degree level.
- Recognized Diploma or Certificate course in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa.
- Two years’ experience of translation work from Hindi to English and vice versa in Central or State Government offices including Government of India undertakings.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge at Matriculation level of one language other than Hindi listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
- Degree or Diploma in translation from Hindi to English and vice versa from a recognized University or equivalent Master’s degree.
2. Age Limit (As on 20-02-2026)
Crucial Date: The age of the candidate will be calculated as on 20 February 2026 (last date of online application).
- Maximum Age: 30 years for UR candidates.
- Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 years.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years.
- Government Servants: Up to 5 years for regular employees of Council/Government/Autonomous Bodies/PSUs.
- PwBD: 10 years (additional relaxation for SC/ST).
- Ex-Servicemen & Widows/Divorced Women: Relaxation as per GoI/CSIR rules (up to 35 years for UR, 40 years for SC/ST).
3. Experience
If applying based on experience, the candidate must have 2 years of translation work in a Government setup.

Paper-II: Descriptive Type
- Duration: 2 Hours
- Max Marks: 300
- Content:
- Paragraph writing in English and Hindi.
- Precis writing in English and Hindi.
- Translation from English to Hindi and from Hindi to English.
- Standard: Graduation level. Medium: English and Hindi.
Selection Stages
- Stage 1: Written Examination (Paper-I & Paper-II).
- Stage 2: Shortlisting of candidates based on Paper-I (minimum threshold marks) for evaluation of Paper-II.
- Stage 3: Final Merit List prepared solely based on marks obtained in Paper-II.
- Stage 4: Document Verification.
Tie-Breaking Rules:
- Candidate with fewer negative marks in Paper-I is placed higher.
- If still tied, older candidate (by DOB) ranks higher.
- Next, earlier acquisition date of essential qualification.
- Finally, alphabetical order of first names.
