  • Experience: Minimum 20 years post-qualification experience in State/Central power utilities, power-sector PSUs under Central/State Government, or private power-sector organizations
  • Domain Requirement: At least 3 years cumulative experience during the last 10 years in the Renewable Energy sector in Project Development, Business Development, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial or Engineering functions

General Manager – Civil (Thermal Power Projects)

  • Qualification: B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. (Engineering) in Civil Engineering
  • Experience: Minimum 20 years post-qualification experience in State/Central/Private power utilities
  • Domain Requirement: At least 10 years experience in planning, construction and execution of greenfield or brownfield power projects, including 2 years at senior managerial level

General Manager – Mechanical (Thermal Power Projects)

  • Qualification: B.Tech, B.E. or B.Sc. (Engineering) in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience: Minimum 20 years post-qualification experience in State/Central/Private power utilities
  • Domain Requirement: At least 10 years experience in execution of coal-based thermal power projects involving 500 MW unit or above, including 2 years at senior managerial level

Private-Sector Eligibility Conditions

  • Applicant must have worked in a regular capacity in an eligible private-sector company, joint venture or specified cooperative federation
  • Organization must meet prescribed annual turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore or more (average of three preceding financial years)
  • Minimum annual CTC of Rs. 52 lakh in the last financial year is required

Selection Process and Shortlisting Criteria

The recruitment involves three stages: eligibility verification, shortlisting based on a 100-mark assessment, and a physical Personal Interview.

  1. Eligibility Verification: CIL examines applicants' qualifications, professional experience and applicable grade or CTC requirements
  2. Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted using a prescribed 100-mark assessment (Qualification 20 + Total Post-Qualification Experience 40 + Specific/Domain Experience 40). The normal interview-shortlisting zone is a maximum of 12 candidates per vacancy.
  3. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates attend a physical-mode interview. Final selection is based solely on marks obtained in the Personal Interview, not on the combined shortlisting and interview scores.
