The Coffee Board of India is an organization established by the Government of India in 1942 under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. It plays a crucial role in the promotion, development, and regulation of the coffee industry in the country. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the Coffee Board supports coffee growers, particularly small-scale farmers, through various initiatives including research, extension services, quality improvement, and market promotion. It is also responsible for conducting coffee-related research through its Central Coffee Research Institute (CCRI) and helps in the dissemination of new technologies and farming practices to improve productivity and sustainability.
In addition to supporting cultivation, the Coffee Board also focuses on boosting the domestic and international market for Indian coffee. It organizes trade fairs, promotional campaigns, and international coffee festivals to showcase Indian coffee varieties such as Arabica and Robusta. The Board also works towards branding Indian coffee globally, including Geographical Indication (GI) tagging for specialty coffees like Monsooned Malabar. Through these initiatives, the Coffee Board plays a vital role in enhancing the global presence of Indian coffee and ensuring the welfare of those involved in the coffee value chain.
