Delhi Milk Schemeis a subordinate office of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India. Delhi Milk Scheme was set up with noble objective of supplying wholesome milk to the citizens of Delhi at reasonable price, on the other hand to give remunerative price to the milk producer farmers. The Central Dairy was formally inaugurated by Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the then President of India. The first supply of pasteurized milk was made to the citizens of Delhi on 1st November,1959.
DMS has ISO 22000:2005 for Food Safety Management System and ISO 14001:2015 for Environment Management System, Certification.
DMS had a initial installed milk processing capacity of 2.55 lakh liters of milk per day which was gradually expanded to the present level of 5 lakh liters per day, Considering the increased demand of the growing population of Delhi. DMS has 21 Milk Collection-cum-Chilling Centres, those were established in the neighbouring states of Haryana, U.P. and Delhi to procure milk for DMS initially. However, with the commencement of milk shed area concept during Operation Flood-I Program, these Milk Collection and Chilling Centerss were eventually closed as the task of milk procurement to DMS was assigned to the feeder Dairies established in the milk sheds in the states of Haryana, U.P., Punjab and Rajasthan.
At Present, DMS is supplying liquid pasteurized milk of different grades along with nutritious value added diary products like Ghee, Butter, Paneer, Chhach and Dahi to the Delhi Market.
