Diamond Harbour Government Medical College & Hospital (DHGMCH) has a rich legacy of serving the people since its inception in December 1974 as Diamond Harbour Sub-divisional Hospital. Over time, it evolved into Diamond Harbour District Hospital in April 2012 with a capacity of 300 beds, and subsequently attained its current stature as DHGMCH in June 2018. Presently, in May 2025, we have the capacity of 734 beds.
Located in the historic town of Diamond Harbour—formerly known as Hajipur-on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, the college stands as a beacon of healthcare and education for the region. It serves as the headquarters of the Diamond Harbour subdivision and police district, catering to a vast rural population, including the vulnerable Sundarban delta area.
In August 2019, DHGMCH welcomed its first batch of 100 MBBS students following the grant of Letter of Permission (LOP) by the National Medical Commission (NMC), formerly the Medical Council of India (MCI). We are planning to increase the seats with necessary documents underway.
