The Department of Women and Child Development has been established to systematically implement various programs and schemes for the holistic development of women and children, and the protection and promotion of their constitutional rights.
Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is the flagship programme of the department, which was launched on 02 October 1975. In terms of its scale and outreach, it is the largest operational programme in the world. Under Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), services are provided to improve the health and nutritional status of pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children up to 6 years of age. Along with this programme, various schemes of the State and Central Government for the empowerment of women and girls are also implemented by the department.
