About ICDS Jammu and Kashmir

The ICDS Scheme has been a well conceived Scheme. But, the real problem lies in its implementation which arises out of inadequate funding, lack of convergence, accountability of those managing and implementing the programme, specially, at the level of Anganwadi centres and supervisory level, lack of community ownership and the general perception about this being a feeding programme and not an Early Childhood Development programme.

Consequent upon the deliberation held with the state Governments including J&K , different Ministries , Planning Commission and other stakeholders including civil society and voluntary organization across the country over the years . The Government of India has approved the strengthening and restructuring of ICDS on 22nd of October 2012. in mission mode at the state level

🏛️ Organization Overview

ICDS Jammu and Kashmir is a major social welfare initiative aimed at tackling malnutrition and providing early childhood education across the Union Territory. Rebranded and strengthened under Mission POSHAN, the department operates thousands of Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in both rural and urban projects. Its mission is to bridge the health gap through supplementary nutrition, immunization, and health check-ups.

Working with ICDS JK is not just a job but a community service role. The organization is decentralized into various Poshan Projects (e.g., Narbal, Sopore, Chadoora), allowing for localized recruitment that ensures workers are deeply connected to the communities they serve. For those seeking a stable career in the public sector with a focus on human development, ICDS JK remains a premier choice.
