The institute works hard to be in the top most ten medical colleges located in India in the activity of medical education, research and health care services. There is extreme shortage of medical facilities in this region, that led the KLE Society to set up in the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Belgaum in 1963. Karnataka Lingayat Education Society existed from 1916 by seven educated young people with the aim of bringing education to the Kannada-speaking region of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency and what is today is known as North Karnataka region. The Head office is located at Belgaum. KLE Society covers almost 238 educational institutions in North Karnataka, South Maharashtra, Bangalore and New Delhi.

On 13 November 1916, KLE Society has started an Anglo Vernacular School in Belgaum. Lingaraj College that was founded in June 1933. KLE also controls the world’s most famous KLE engineering college in Belgaum, that was set up year 1979. From the year 1984, KLE Society also begun its dental, education, nursing, information technology, computer applications, etc , and also college of polytechnics across India. The health care institutions included a super-specialty KLE Society's Prabhakar Kore Hospital as well as Medical Research Centre in it which is located at Belgaum. Currently under the leadership of Mr. Prabhakar Kore, the KLE Society runs 207 institutions.
