Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold at least one of the following marine professional qualifications:
- Master (FG) certificate or Dredge Master Grade-I
- First Mate (FG) certificate or Dredge Master Grade-II
- 2nd Mate (FG) certificate or Dredge Mate Grade-I
- B.Sc. Nautical Science
Age Limit (as on 01.09.2026)
- B.Sc. Nautical Science: Not exceeding 25 years
- 2nd Mate (FG) / Dredge Mate Grade-I: Not exceeding 30 years
- First Mate (FG) / Dredge Master Grade-II: Not exceeding 35 years
- Master (FG) / Dredge Master Grade-I: Not exceeding 40 years
Age Relaxation
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years
- SC / ST: 5 years
- Existing employees of any Major Port of India Board: up to 55 years
Note: If an SC, ST, or OBC candidate applies under the UR category, they are not eligible for age relaxation. Reservation is applicable for UR, OBC (B/L), SC, ST, and EWS categories. The post is not identified suitable for PwBD candidates.
Selection Process
- Stage 1 – Shortlisting: Applications will be screened against prescribed eligibility criteria (qualification, age, experience).
- Stage 2 – Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be called for a personal interview based on qualifications and relevant experience. The interview date and venue will be communicated to eligible candidates.
- Stage 3 – Document Verification: Original documents will be verified on the day of the interview. No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
- Post-Selection: Selected candidates will serve as Trainee Pilots. Adjustment against the regular post of Pilot is subject to passing the requisite examinations (maximum of 3 attempts allowed per examination). A service bond for a minimum period of 5 years is required after qualifying as Pilot.
How to Apply – Offline Submission Process
- Download the application proforma (Annexure-I) from the SMP Kolkata Trainee Pilot Official Notification PDF.
- Affix one recent colour passport-size photograph, self-attested, on the designated space in the application form.
- Fill in all required details including personal information, educational qualifications, professional qualifications, and work experience.
- Enclose self-certified/self-attested photocopies of caste certificates, educational and professional qualification certificates, age proof certificate, CDC, and COC.
- Place the application and all enclosures inside a sealed envelope.
- Superscribe the envelope with: 'Application for the post of Trainee Pilot at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (erstwhile Kolkata Port Trust)'.
- Send the sealed application by Registered Post / Speed Post, or deliver it in person, to:
Director, Marine Department, Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, 15 Strand Road, Kolkata 700001 — on or before 26 October 2026.
