National Centre for Integrated Pest Management (NCIPM) of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), India was established in February 1988. It was founded to cater to the plant protection needs of different agro-ecological zones of India. In spite of a large expert workforce across different plant protection disciplines, there are still epidemics of pests on different crops in the recent past with the chronic pest problems. NCIPM has a strong institutional network in place to take on the challenges of plant protection in India in a harmonized manner.
NCIPM is a system approach that combines a wide array of crop production and protection practices to minimize the economic losses caused by the pests (insect pests, diseases, nematodes, weeds, rodents, birds etc.). It emphasizes on careful monitoring of pests and conservation of their natural enemies.
