NITI Aayog, which stands for National Institution for Transforming India, is a policy think tank and a government body in India. It was established on January 1, 2015, to replace the Planning Commission of India, which had been in existence since 1950.
NITI Aayog's primary objective is to foster cooperative federalism and promote sustainable and balanced development across various sectors of the Indian economy. It acts as a catalyst for the economic transformation of the country by providing strategic and technical advice to the central and state governments.
The organization's core functions include formulating medium and long-term strategic plans, conducting policy research, and providing policy recommendations to address specific challenges faced by the nation. NITI Aayog also facilitates coordination and collaboration among different stakeholders, including government ministries, state governments, industry leaders, and civil society organizations.
NITI Aayog operates through various departments and verticals, focusing on areas such as agriculture and rural development, health and nutrition, education, infrastructure, sustainable development, and innovation. It actively engages with state governments to design and implement region-specific development programs and initiatives.
