Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy (SSS-NIBE), Kapurthala formerly SSS-NIRE, is an autonomous Institution under the Ministry New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt. of India. The Institute is an up-coming R&D Institute with its mandate to carry out state-of-the-art R&D and innovations, covering the entire spectrum of bioenergy leading to commercialization of technology and their integration with other renewable energy technologies. The Institute is spread over 75-acre land at 12 KM stone in Jalandhar Kapurthala National Highway adjacent of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University and Pushpa Gujral Science City. One of the important roles envisaged for the institute is human resource development at all levels in the field of Bio -Energy including postdoctoral research. The institute in recent years took initiatives in R &D in biofuels and biomass cook stoves. R&D activities have also been accounted in the area of Biomass and Energy Management, Thermochemical Conversion, Biochemical Conversion, Chemical Conversion, Electrochemical Processes through projects and reputed publications in relevant field.
