Disqualification Clause

No person who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any other person, shall be eligible for appointment unless the Hon'ble High Court is satisfied that such a marriage is permissible under the personal law applicable to such a person and exempts them from this rule.

Reservation Applicability

Reservation benefits, age relaxation, and fee concessions are available only to bonafide residents of the State of Punjab. Applicants from reserved categories of other states must apply under the Unreserved (UR)/General category. Reservation is regulated as per The Punjab Subordinate Courts Establishment (Recruitment and General Conditions of Service) Rules, 1997, as amended, along with specific Punjab Government instructions governing EWS, Women, Sportsman, Freedom Fighter, and PwBD categories.

Selection Process & Screening Clause

Selection involves three stages. The final merit list is prepared solely on the basis of marks in the Written Examination.

Stage 1: Online Written Examination (Computer Based Test) – 2 Hours

  • Qualifying marks: 33% in each subject plus at least 40% in aggregate in the Written Examination
  • Negative marking: 1/4 mark for each wrong answer in the objective portion; unattempted questions carry no credit or discredit
  • Subjective English Composition is evaluated only for candidates securing 33% or more in General Knowledge

Stage 2: Computer Proficiency Test (CPT) – Qualifying Only

  • Part-I – Spreadsheet Test: 10 marks, 10 minutes duration; must score 40% or more to qualify
  • Part-II – Computer Typing Test (English): Required speed of 30 words per minute (WPM); formula: (Words typed − Mistakes) ÷ 10
  • Marks from CPT are not counted in the final merit; it is purely qualifying in nature
  • Specified PwBD categories may apply for exemption with a Disability Certificate and Medical Certificate from a Government healthcare institution, submitted within 15 days of the written exam result

Stage 3: Checking of Original Testimonials / Interaction

Candidates qualifying both the Written Examination and CPT (numbers decided category-wise by the Hon'ble High Court) are called for verification of original documents.

Final Merit List & Tie-Breaking

The Select List is prepared strictly on the basis of merit in the Written Examination. In case of a tie, the older candidate ranks higher; if dates of birth are identical, candidates are placed alphabetically (A–Z).

Answer Key, Objections & Normalisation

A provisional Answer Key is published on sssc.gov.in after the written exam. Candidates may raise objections or cross-objections with documentary proof on payment of ₹25 per objection (non-refundable). If the exam is held in multiple shifts, the objective portion is normalised using a Standard Deviation Method. Re-evaluation is not permitted; re-checking may be requested in writing within 30 days of the final result on payment of ₹500 per answer sheet.

No TA/DA will be paid to candidates for appearing in the written examination, Computer Proficiency Test, or for checking of original testimonials/interaction.

How to Apply Online

Applications must be submitted online only under the head "Clerk District Courts of Punjab" on sssc.gov.in. No other mode of submission is accepted.

  1. Complete the Registration form first, followed by the Application Form
  2. Capture a real-time photograph using an inbuilt or attached webcam within the application form
  3. Upload a scanned recent passport-size photograph (white background, not more than one month old) and scanned signature
  4. Enter all personal details, including category and sub-category, carefully — no change is permitted after submission
  5. Pay the fee online via internet banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI; the application is considered submitted only after successful payment
  6. Print and retain the submitted application; keep 5 printed copies of the uploaded photograph for subsequent recruitment stages

Important: The real-time photograph, uploaded scanned photograph, and E-Admit Card photograph must match, and the candidate's facial appearance at the examination centre must match these photographs. Any mismatch means the candidate will not be allowed to enter the examination centre.
