The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment was notified on 7th September 2005. It was first implemented in the district of west Garo Hills and South Garo Hills District in year 2007, over the years the Government of Meghalaya has evolved certain practices which can be considered as the best practices in the implementation of MGNREGS has a right based demand driven wage employment programme for people in rural areas irrespective of their status of BPL and APL.
