Eligibility Criteria for Law Clerk-and-Research Associate

Essential Qualification

  • Must be a Law Graduate (before taking up the assignment) having a Bachelor Degree in Law (including Integrated Degree Course in Law) from any institution established by law in India and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an Advocate.
  • Candidates studying in the 5th year of the Five-Year Integrated Law Course or the 3rd year of the Three-Year Law Course after graduation are also eligible to apply, subject to furnishing proof of acquiring the Law qualification before joining.
  • Must possess research and analytical skills, writing abilities, and knowledge of computer, including retrieval of information from search engines (e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis, Westlaw, etc.).

Experience

  • No prior experience specified, but skills in legal research are required.

Age Limit

  • Minimum: 20 years
  • Maximum: 32 years (as on 07/02/2026)

Selection Process

  • Part I (Online): Multiple Choice Based Questions. Minimum 60% qualifying marks. Negative marking of 0.25 per incorrect answer.
  • Part II (Offline): Subjective Written Test (Pen-Paper mode). Answer sheets evaluated based on merit ratio (1:10).
  • Part III (Interview): Candidates qualifying Part I and II will be called for an interview in the ratio of 1:3 against tentative vacancies.

About Supreme Court of India
