The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is a statutory body established by the Indian government to regulate telecommunications services and ensure their proper functioning in the country. It was created under the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India Act, of 1997.
The TRAI is responsible for promoting fair competition in the telecommunications industry, protecting the interests of consumers, and ensuring the growth and development of the sector. It formulates and implements various regulations and policies related to telecommunications services, including tariffs, quality of service, interconnection, and licensing.
