Skills / Eligibility
Post-Doctoral position in the area of X-ray and/or UV astronomy at IUCAA 1. Position: Post-Doctoral position 2. Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the area of X-ray and/or UV astronomy. 3. The successful candidate will work on "updating calibration of SXT/UVIT-Gratings onboard the Indian astronomy mission AstroSat" and/or "detection of UV sources in the UVIT fields and their spectral/temporal characterisation". 4. The first project requires scientific programming skills, a good knowledge of functionality/responses of X-ray/UV instruments and experience in X-ray data analysis. 5. Applicants with experience in scientific programming, X-ray/UV data analysis techniques, and compact object research are especially encouraged to apply. 6. Successful candidate will spend a good fraction of time on analysing data from the AstroSat mission, writing new tools as required, and interpretation of the data.

The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to promote the nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics at Indian universities. IUCAA aims to be a centre of excellence within the university sector for teaching, research and development in astronomy and astrophysics.
IUCAA’s activities fall under two broad programmes: core academic programmes and visitor academic programmes. Core academic programmes include basic research, the PhD programme, advanced research workshops and schools, the giant metre-wave radio telescope and guest observer programmes. Visitor academic programmes include the visitor and associates programme, refresher courses for teachers and helping the nucleation and growth of astronomy and astrophysics at Indian universities.
