Eligibility Criteria & Educational Qualification

Nationality & Domicile

• The applicant must be a citizen of India.
• The applicant must be a permanent resident of West Bengal.

Driver (Temporary / Contractual Basis)

• Educational Qualification: Class VIII passed from a recognized school.
• Driving Licence: Must possess a valid Four-Wheeler Driving Licence.
• Experience: At least 02 (two) years of driving experience in any Government organization, Quasi-Government organization, Registered Private Limited Company, or equivalent.

Age Limit

• Minimum: 21 years | Maximum: 40 years, as on the date of advertisement (07.10.2026).

Selection Process & Screening Clause

1. Shortlisting of Valid Applications: Applications will be scrutinized for completeness and eligibility. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for subsequent stages.
2. Driving Test (20 Marks): Shortlisted candidates will undergo a practical driving test.
3. Interview (20 Marks): A personal interview will be conducted following the driving test.
4. Merit List: A merit list will be prepared based on combined marks from the Driving Test and Interview (total 40 marks). The merit list will be published on the Howrah GRP official website.
5. Medical Examination: Provisionally selected candidates will undergo a medical fitness test as directed by the competent authority.
6. Verification of Character & Antecedents: Selected candidates must submit a Police Clearance Certificate or undergo character verification as prescribed at the time of joining.

No TA/DA will be paid to candidates attending the Driving Test and Interview.

1. Download the prescribed application format from the West Bengal Police website or Howrah GRP website.
2. Print the application form on white A4 size paper.
3. Fill in all details in CAPITAL LETTERS using black/blue ink.
4. Paste one recent passport-size photograph (4.5 cm × 3.5 cm) self-attested on the top-right corner of the application form.
5. Attach self-attested copies of required documents (listed below).
6. Superscribe the envelope with: "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF DRIVER (CONTRACTUAL), 2026".
7. Submit the application personally in the DROP BOX or by Speed Post at: Office of the Superintendent of Railway Police, Howrah, 2nd Floor Yatri Niwas, New Complex, Howrah Rly Station, Howrah – 711101, on or before 21 October 2026.

Important Instructions

• The engagement is purely temporary and contractual for a period of 01 (one) year. It is not a permanent Government appointment.
• Renewal of the contract is subject to satisfactory performance and approval of the competent authority.
• Contractual drivers shall not be absorbed into or claim appointment to the regular Government establishment.
• Canvassing in any form or bringing any influence will result in immediate disqualification.
