Educational Qualification: A Ph.D. in Basic Sciences with 10 years’ experience at the level of Professor in an institute of national repute. Desirable: National recognition, Membership in the National Science Academies, receipt of prestigious awards in any specific academic area. Familiarity with the working of DAE is desirable.
Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience.

The Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) came into being on August 3, 1954 under the direct charge of the Prime Minister through a Presidential Order. According to the Resolution constituting the AEC, the Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Atomic Energy is ex-officio Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) was established on 3rd August 1954. Its headquarters is located at Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Department of Atomic Energy is engaged in the development of nuclear power technology, applications of radiation technologies in the fields of agriculture, medicine, industry and basic research. It has two boards for promoting and funding extramural research in nuclear and allied fields, mathematics and a national institute.
The important programmes of the DAE are directed towards: Enhancing the share of nuclear power in the Power Sector, Building and operating of research reactors for the production of radioisotopes; Developing advanced technologies such as accelerators, lasers, supercomputers etc; Carrying out and supporting basic research in nuclear energy.
