The Department of Publication, located at Civil Lines, behind Old Secretariat, Delhi -110 054, is a subordinate office of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. Over the years, the Department has acquired large number of books which are available on various disciplines and subjects brought out by the Ministries / Departments of Government of India, Autonomous Bodies among other organisations since the year 1924, (prior to the Independence of the Country, its role was limited to Government Reports only). With the passage of time, its functions increased manifold and it become an independent Department since the year 1973. As per allocation of Business Rules, the Department of Publication is the authorised agency for publishing all Government books.
