Educational Qualification:
(i) The candidate must be a graduate from a UGC recognized University as on the date
of advertisement.
(ii) Should possess a Diploma/Certificate in stenography/short hand from ITI / Polytechnic / any other recognized institute. Candidates who are pursuing Stenography / Shorthand may also apply. However, they must submit pass/completion certificate/diploma to the High court at the time of document verification, unless otherwise decided by the High Court.
(iii) Must have adequate knowledge of the official language (Assamese) of the State of Assam.
(iv) The candidate must furnish Employment exchange registration number for the state of Assam as the post are of District Courts of Assam.

Selection Procedure:
The selection of candidates for Stenographer Grade-II posts is based on their performance across three stages: the Stenography Test, the Written Test, and the Viva-voce.
Stage 1 – Stenography Test
Description Marks/Duration
Voice test before dictation 2 Minutes
Speed test in shorthand at 100 words per minute (700 words) 100 Marks, Duration 7 minutes
Time given to candidates for testing the computer 3 Minutes
Time for transcription of the dictated portion on computer 25 Minutes
Candidates equal to 10 times the number of vacancies (1:10), who have qualified in the Stenography Test by securing a minimum of 30 marks, shall be called for the Written Test.
Stage 2 – Written Test
The written test will be of 70 marks and 1½ hours duration, consisting of objective type (OMR based) multiple choice questions on:
English Language Proficiency – 50 marks
Official Language of the State of Assam (Assamese) – 20 marks
Both the English and Assamese language segments are of qualifying nature, and candidates must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each segment to qualify.
Stage 3 – Viva-voce
Candidates qualifying in the Written Test shall be called in the ratio of 1:3, in order of merit in the Stenography Test, for the Viva-voce of 10 marks. The final merit position will be determined on the basis of the total marks obtained in the Stenography Test and Viva-voce.

The Gauhati High Court as of today emerged from the High Court of Assam. On 9th September 1947, the Assam Legislative Assembly adopted a resolution that a High Court is established for the Province of Assam. In exercise of the power conferred by sub-section (1) of section 229 of the Government of India Act, 1935, as adopted by the Indian Provincial Constitution (Amendment) Order, 1948, the Governor-General of India was pleased to promulgate on 1st March 1948 the Assam High Court Order, 1948, establishing the High Court of Assam with effect from 5th April 1948, for the then Province of Assam.
