About Inter University Accelerator Centre
Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) was set-up by the University Grants Commission as the first Inter-University Centre (IUC) called Nuclear Science Centre after due approval of the Planning Commission and the Prime Minister in October, 1984. Its construction started in December, 1986 and completed in time on December 19, 1990.
Inter University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) was established with the objective to provide research facilities to create possibilities for internationally competitive research within the university system. IUAC has been playing a very important role of a research institute within the University system where the scientific and technical staff have dual responsibilities of facilitating research for a large user community as well conducting their own research. The emphasis of IUAC is on encouraging group activities and sharing of the facilities at the Centre in synergy with those existing elsewhere. Inter University Accelerator Centre has established sophisticated accelerator systems and experimental facilities in project mode involving many universities for internationally competitive research in the areas of Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Atomic Physics, Radiation Biology, Radiation Physics and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry.
