The written examination is scheduled to be held on 6th September 2026 (Sunday) from 10:30 AM to 12:00 Noon.
A total of 1600 vacancies have been announced: 179 for the Kalyana Karnataka region and 1421 for the Residual Cadre.
Candidates must have passed PUC/12th Standard or its equivalent from a recognized board/institution. Candidates awaiting results are not eligible.
The application fee is ₹500/- for General Merit candidates and ₹250/- for SC/ST/Cat-1/2A/2B/3A/3B candidates.
The minimum age is 18 years. The maximum age varies by category: 33 years for General Merit (Male), 35 years for reserved categories, and 38 years for tribal candidates, with applicable relaxations.

Police in Karnataka were called by various names in different regions. After initiation of Policing, they were initially called Thoti, Talwar, Umbalidhar, Kattubidi, Neeraganti etc. The police primarily with policing used to do other jobs entrusted to them. The foundation of present police set up was laid after the appointment of State’s first Inspector General of Police. Today the State Police has grown into a big and complex organisation running on modern management principles.
Mysore State was the predecessor to Karnataka State, which was created on 1st November 1965. Sri. L. Rickets was appointed as first Inspector General of Police, prior to which the State Police had no status, structure and powers as such. During 1883 it was reported that Talwars, Thotis, Neeragantis, Kavalugararu, Amaragararu, Ankamaale, Patela, Shyanubhogas etc. used to do policing. During the rule of Maharajas of Mysore, the policing existed in different ways.
