Eligibility for Visiting Student Counsellor

• Essential Qualification:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with minimum 60% marks from a recognized University with relevant experience of five years after the qualifying degree, out of which three years should be student counselling experience in a higher educational institution.
  • OR Master’s Degree in Psychology with minimum 60% marks from a recognized University with relevant experience of three years after the qualifying degree, out of which minimum one year should be student counselling experience in a higher educational institution.
• Desirable Qualification:
  • License holder of Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
  • Ph.D in Psychology.
• Experience: As mentioned in the essential qualification criteria.
• Language Skills: The counsellor shall have excellent communication skills in Bengali, Hindi and English language.

Job Description / Responsibilities

• Render counselling service to all bonafide students and be available to staff and faculty during working hours.
• Act as the point of contact for students requiring interpersonal/emotional counselling.
• Comfortable working with students from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds.
• Maintain confidentiality but report to Dean (NIPER-Kolkata) of any extreme cases.
• Coordinate with the Institute Medical Officer.
• Conduct workshops, talks, and group discussions to help students with academic, interpersonal, and emotional needs.
• Conduct separate orientation sessions for students, Teaching and Non-Teaching staff once a year.
• Maintain a database of the mental well-being of students.

Selection Process

The selection of candidates will be based on an In-person interview only. Candidates of Indian nationality can only apply. Preference will be given to candidates staying in Kolkata.
