The Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP), a premier autonomous research institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has announced a recruitment drive for dynamic and highly motivated candidates for the positions of Research Associates (RAs). This is an excellent opportunity for Ph.D. holders in Physical/Biophysical sciences to contribute to cutting-edge research across various specialized groups within the Institute.

A total of 12 Research Associate positions are available across different scientific disciplines, including Biophysical Sciences, Atomic, Nuclear and High Energy Physics, Theoretical Physics, and Condensed Matter, Surface Physics and Material Science. Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the essential and desirable qualifications as specified for each group:

Eligibility for Research Associate (Group-A Biophysical Sciences)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Physical/ Biophysical sciences.
  • Desirable: Fresh PhD with working experience in one or more of the following areas: Structure, Function and Dynamics of Biological macromolecules; Cell and Molecular Biology; Chemical Sciences.

Eligibility for Research Associate (Group-B Atomic, Nuclear and High Energy Physics)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Physical/ Biophysical sciences.
  • Desirable: Experimental Atomic Spectroscopy and Quantum Optics. Experimental high energy physics/Experimental Astrophysics/experimental nuclear physics with experience in detector hardware and instrumentation.

Eligibility for Research Associate (Group-C Theoretical Physics)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Physical/ Biophysical sciences.
  • Desirable: Soft-Matter: background in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, hydrodynamics and continuum formulations of dynamics in driven systems. Gravitational Waves: Expertise in numerical ray-tracing and machine learning applications in the area of gravity and GW.

Eligibility for Research Associate (Group-D Condensed Matter, Surface Physics and Material Science)

  • Essential Qualification: Ph.D in Physical/ Biophysical sciences.
  • Desirable: Working experiences in one or more of the following areas:
    1. Study of electron transport through single molecular rectifiers for the next-generation quantum devices.
    2. Green energy research on fuel cell: Chemical root towards efficient catalyst.
    3. Growth and structural characterization of metal-organic hybrid structures and thin films for device fabrication.
    4. Design of efficient, stable, and sustainable direct ethanol fuel cells (DEFCs).

Age Limit

  • Maximum 35 years as on 16.01.2026.

Salary/Stipend

The selected Research Associates will be offered a monthly associateship based on their qualifications and experience, as determined by the interview/selection committee:

  • RA-1: Rs. 58,000/- PM + HRA
  • RA-2: Rs. 61,000/- PM + HRA

In addition to the associateship, other admissible benefits will be applicable. The initial tenure will be one year, extendable up to a maximum of three years based on academic performance review.

Selection Process

The selection process will involve shortlisting of candidates based on their applications and qualifications, followed by an interview. The final level of associateship (RA-1 or RA-2) will be fixed based on the recommendation of the interview/selection committee.

The Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (SINP) is an institute of basic research and training in physical and biophysical sciences located in Bidhannagar, Kolkata.
