Till 1965, India's borders with Pakistan were guarded by the State Armed Police Battalion. On 09 April 1965, Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Char Bet and Baria Bet in Kutch. This attack revealed that the State Armed Police Battalion was insufficient to counter armed aggression due to which the Government of India felt the need for a special Border Security Force under the Center which would be an armed and trained force and the International Border along the Pakistan border. will monitor. As a result of the recommendations of the Committee of Secretaries, the Border Security Force came into existence on 1 December 1965 and Shri KF Rustomji was its first chief and founder. The Border Security Force was formed in 1965 with a total of 25 battalions and over time Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, The Border Security Force continued to expand to prevent terrorism in the North East. At present, 192 Battalions of Border Security Force (including 03 NDRF Battalions) and 07 Arty Regiment are deployed in the security of the International Border of India-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh. Apart from this, the Border Security Force is deployed in infiltration in the Kashmir Valley, internal security in the North East region, anti-Naxal operations in Orissa and Chhattisgarh and integrated check posts on the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh international borders.
