Apprentice Trainee – Graduate/Technician (Diploma)/General Stream
Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) has released a notification for the engagement of 134 Apprentice Trainees under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973, through the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS). This special drive is for Engineering Graduates, Diploma Holders, and General Stream Graduates who passed out during 2021-2025. Note: Candidates must have a valid, approved NATS ID at the time of document verification. Candidates who have already undergone or are currently undergoing Apprenticeship training are not eligible.
Educational Qualification:Post-specific as detailed in the eligibility table. Qualifications must be from a recognized AICTE/UGC/Central/State Government institution. No additional weightage for higher qualifications.
Age Limit:Minimum 18 years and Maximum 25 years as on 01.01.2026 (born between 01.01.2001 and 01.01.2008). Relaxation: SC/ST (5 years), OBC-NCL (3 years).
Stipend:
Graduate Apprentices: ₹12,300/- per month (Government Share: ₹6,150 + KRCL Share: ₹6,150).
Technician (Diploma) Apprentices: ₹10,900/- per month (Government Share: ₹5,450 + KRCL Share: ₹5,450).
Stipend is paid via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Selection Procedure:
- Merit List: Based on aggregate percentage of total marks obtained across all years/semesters. No rounding off.
- Tie-Breaker: Older candidate is selected. If same age, candidate who passed matriculation earlier is preferred.
- First Preference: Land loser candidates (whose land was acquired for Konkan Railway Project).
- Second Preference: Candidates belonging to KRCL jurisdiction districts (Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, North/South Goa, Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada).
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates must appear for document verification at the specified venue and date.
Application Process: There is no separate application form. Candidates must first register on the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) portal and obtain a valid, approved NATS ID. Then, they must directly report for document verification at the specified venue and date based on their discipline.

Venue: Executives Club, Konkan Rail Vihar, Sector-40, Opp. Seawoods Railway Station (West), Navi Mumbai-400706.
Registration Time: 09:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs only on the date of Document Verification.
Note: Candidates must report with all required original documents and self-attested photocopies. Latecomers beyond 12:00 hrs will not be allowed.

Key Instructions for Candidates
- NATS Registration is Mandatory: Candidates must have a valid, approved NATS ID at the time of document verification. Registration on the NATS portal is the first and most critical step.
- No Written Exam: Selection is solely based on academic merit and document verification. No written test will be conducted.
- Document Verification Only: Candidates must appear for document verification at the specified venue and date based on their discipline. Reporting time is strictly 09:00 hrs to 12:00 hrs.
- Eligibility Check: Ensure you meet all eligibility criteria (NATS ID, passing year 2021-2025, age limit, educational qualification, physical fitness) before attending.
- Land Loser Preference: Land loser candidates (whose land was acquired for the Konkan Railway Project) will be given first preference. Candidates from KRCL jurisdiction districts get second preference.
- Required Documents: Bring all original documents and self-attested photocopies as listed in the notification (mark sheets, degree/diploma certificate, age proof, caste/EWS certificates, land loser certificates if applicable, domicile, medical certificate, Aadhaar, PAN card, etc.).
- Physical Fitness: Candidates must produce a medical certificate certified by a Government Doctor (not below the rank of Assistant Surgeon) in the prescribed format.
- Agreement of Training: Selected candidates must enter into a Contract of Apprenticeship Training. The duration of training is one year.
- No Employment Guarantee: Completion of apprenticeship does not guarantee absorption into KRCL. It is not obligatory on the part of KRCL to offer employment to apprentices.

The Konkan Railway was the missing link between India’s commercial capital, Mumbai, and Mangalore. The 741-kilometre line connects Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka States — a region of criss-crossing rivers, plunging valleys and mountains that soar into the clouds.
The Konkan is a coastal strip of land bounded by the Sahyadri hills on the east, and Arabian Sea on the west. It is a land where mythology breathes side by side with economic growth,a land with rich mineral resources, dense forest cover and a landscape fringed with paddy, coconut and mango trees. The formidable terrain to be conquered and the short construction period meant that the project could only be completed with the help of several technological innovations. Apart from setting a trend for other infrastructure projects in the country, the Konkan Railway provides concrete proof of the skills of Indian engineers, their discipline, team spirit and courage. But it is also a tribute to the unconquerable human spirit. Beyond the technical jargon, it was a leap of faith that made the long cherished dream of the people of the region possible.
The Konkan Railway has also in a way changed the lives of the Engineers and otherpeople associated with the project. For them it was the glory of overcoming all odds, and the satisfaction and pride that they have built something for posterity.
The completion of the Konkan Railway was a “tryst with destiny” for many people in the Konkan region, redeemed in the 50th year of the nation’s Independence. It is hence entirely fitting that the first train on the completed track was flagged off on January 26, 1998, Republic Day.
