The Department of Water Resources was created vide notification No. C.A-24/2009/25 Dated 25/08/2009. The Department of Water Resources now encompasses the functions of the former Irrigation Directorate of the Department of Agriculture along with the added responsibility of implementing Medium Irrigation Projects and Flood Control Works pertaining to Agricultural land. The Department has also been entrusted with the responsibility of collection of hydro-meteorological and groundwater data for improving the extent, reliability, and accessibility of Water Resources information in the state. The Department shall coordinate with other State Government Departments in all matters relating to Water Resources.
