Dibrugarh University was established in 1965 at Rajabheta. Dibrugarh district known internationally as a rich tea producing district is also known for its rich reserve of minerals like coal, oil, and natural gas. The territorial jurisdiction of Dibrugarh University covers seven districts of Upper Assam, viz, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur.
