HPPSC SET 2026 – Apply Online for Assistant Professor Eligibility Test
The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) has released the notification for the State Eligibility Test (SET) 2026. This test is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and determines the eligibility for recruitment to the post of Assistant Professor in Universities and Colleges located within the State of Himachal Pradesh.
Candidates aspiring to become Assistant Professors in Himachal Pradesh must qualify this examination. The SET will be conducted in Offline (OMR) mode across various centers in the state. Interested candidates must apply online before the closing date.

Ans: The last date for submission of online applications is 30 January 2026 (till 11:59 PM).
Q2. Is there a limit on the number of attempts for SET?
Ans: No, a candidate can appear in the SET any number of times and there is no age limit.
Q3. What is the validity of the SET certificate?
Ans: For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, qualified candidates are eligible to apply for Assistant Professor only in Universities/Colleges situated in Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh attained statehood on 25th January, 1971. Prior to this date, the function of Public Service Commission in respect of the civil services and posts in connection with the affairs of the Union Territory of Himachal Pradesh were being discharged by the Union Public Service Commission under Article 315 of the Constitution of India. It was, therefore, incumbent on the State to have its own Public Service Commission. However, since a State Public Service Commission could be constituted simultaneously with the attainment of Statehood, the Union Public Service Commission, on a request from the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh with the approval of the President of India, agreed to serve the needs of Himachal Pradesh till the establishment of a Public Service Commission for the State or for a period of three months from 25th January, 1971 whichever was earlier.
